How to take a screen recording on Windows
On Windows 10 & 11 computers, you can take a screen recording using the built-in Xbox Game Bar.
To start recording immediately, press the Windows logo key + Alt + R. To stop the recording, press the same combination of keys again.
You can then find your recording under 'This PC' > 'videos' > 'captures'.
How to take a screen recording on Mac
On Mac computers, you can take a screen recording by pressing command + shift + 5. A toolbar will then appear at the bottom of the screen, and your cursor will transform into a little camera icon.
You can use the toolbar to choose whether to record the whole screen or just a portion of it, and you can choose to record sound with the recording too if you like.
When you're ready to record, click 'Record' in the toolbar. To stop recording, click on the stop icon in the finder bar at the very top of your screen (this looks like a little square inside a circle).
Your recording will then be automatically saved to your desktop.
How to take a screen recording on Android
To take a screen recording on your Android phone, swipe down twice from the top of the screen, then tap 'Screen record' > 'start'. If you can't see the screen record function, try swiping right.
If it's not there, tap 'Edit' then move the 'Screen record' function to your Quick Settings.
Once you've tapped 'Start', the recording will begin after a countdown. To stop recording, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the screen recorder icon again. You'll find the recording in your videos or movies folder.
How to take a screen recording on iPhone & iPad
To take a screen recording on your iPhone or iPad, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen and tap the screen recorder icon (a circle inside another circle). The recording will begin after a countdown.
To stop recording, swipe down again from the top-right corner and tap the screen recorder icon again. Your recording will be automatically saved to your camera roll.
If you can't see the screen recorder icon when you swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen, head to 'Settings' > 'Control Centre', then click the plus icon next to 'Screen Recording' to add it. It will then appear for you.
